Our selected route will take us through many remote regions and small villages, so that we get a very authentic impression of Ecuador. This enduro riding tour features quite a few challenges and requires riding skill, good physical fitness and stamina; thus it is perfect for enduro enthusiasts!

Arrival in Ecuador, where you will be met and welcomed at the airport by Thomas Fischer, transfer to hotel, rest of the day free. We will also use today to get acclimatized, go for a trial run and discuss the tour ahead.

Transfer Quito-Tumbaco. In Tumbaco we’ll hold a quick briefing before we hit the road. The first stage takes us past ruins of the Quitus tribe of the Quechua civilization and sprawling private haciendas until we reach Otavalo.

We’ll traverse the western Andean Cordilleras and drive out of the sierra. We’ll ride along the Andean foothills through the cloud forest to Mindo.

From Mindo we’ll continue following the western slope further south before heading back up into the mountains to Chugchilàn.

We have a long ride ahead of us today, so everyone should be ready to go by 7:00. After half an hour of warming up on a gorgeous enduro route we arrive at QUILOTOA crater lake. Our subsequent up-and-down journey along the serpentine curves of the western sierra will take us to an altitude in excess of 10,000 meters /32,800 feet. Late in the afternoon we’ll glimpse Ecuador’s highest mountain, CHIMBORAZO (6310m/20,703’) before we roll into Guaranda in the evening to spend the night. If the weather is bad, we may take the high-lying valley route instead of the road along the western slope.

The destination of today’s leg is Cuenca, Ecuador’s third-largest city with an attractive old town featuring Spanish architecture.

From Cuenca we take a detour into the jungle. After riding along spectacular roads, this time on the eastern side of the Andes, we will reach another village that time seems to have forgotten: Mendez.

A road that is still under construction leads from Mendez via Macas back into the mountains to Baños. If we’re lucky, we may be the first bikers to conquer the incomplete sections.... If the road is not passable, we’ll have to spend the night in Macas.

Rest day in the resort of Baños – the perfect place to relax with its hot springs, mild climate and exquisite restaurants.
